Ahye sixth in 60m as T&T fails to medal indoors

Trinidad Guardian :: 10.03.2014

The Queen’s Baton Relay in continuation of its visit to each Commonwealth State will arrive for its four-day stop in T&T, at the Piarco International Airport, from approximately 2.05 pm, today.

A three-day programme, organised by the T&T Commonwealth Games Association (TTCGA), in partnership with the British Council and the British High Commission will include relays across Tobago (from the ANR Robinson Airport toward the Esplanade) on Wednesday, and another relay in Trinidad (from St Joseph’s Secondary to the Hasely Crawford Stadium) a day later.

Organisers have encouraged members of the public to support the event, as a number of personalities including the British High Commissioner, representatives from the T&T Commonwealth Games Association, and representatives from both the T&T Olympic Committee and the T&T Paralympic Committee will participate.

Former national athletes and some of whom are expected to challenge this year’s event will also take part in the relay.

The Queen’s Baton Relay was launched at Buckingham Palace, on October 9, 2013, where the Queen placed her message to the Commonwealth in the baton.

Over a period of 288 days, the baton will cover 190,000 kilometres and involve a third of the world’s population, making it the world’s most engaging relay event.

The Queen’s Baton Relay is being followed by a BBC documentary team, which will also be present in T&T for this leg.

The Commonwealth Games will see thousands of sportsmen and women representing 70 states and territories compete in 17 sports at 14 venues in and around Glasgow, Scotland.
